Guiding Principles and Goals

This winter work was done to move the Marsh Lake planning process along and make use of all of the great input that has been given so far. The result is a draft of the Marsh Lake Local Area Plan Guiding Principles and Goals full set of maps.

The Guiding Principles and Goals were developed based on public input collected to date (survey, kitchen table meetings, visioning workshop, Kwanlin Dün elders tea, Field Trip and the Key Issues workshop); national and global planning principles, lessons learned from existing Local Area Plans, Yukon Government’s 2009 Energy Strategy and the Climate Change Action Plan.

The maps also include public input as well as technical input from Yukon Government and Kwanlin Dün First Nation. These maps will be overlaid to determine what types of land uses should be encouraged and discouraged within the Marsh Lake Local Area.

We would welcome your comments and encourage you to get them to us before May 18 so that we can incorporate and consider your comments as the Steering Committee moves forward with the creation of a Local Area Plan for Marsh Lake.

Draft Vision Statement

Throughout the fall and early winter there were many opportunities to provide input on the vision for the future of the Marsh Lake Local Area. The events included: Graffiti Wall, Youth Input, Community Workshop and Focus Tea. The work done during these events and the input received through the survey and summer kitchen table meetings was used by the Marsh Lake Local Area Planning Steering Committee to develop the following DRAFT vision statement.

In the year 2030, the Marsh Lake Local Area is a rural community with clean water and healthy fish and wildlife populations. People enjoy the local environment, have a chance to work locally and have access to basic local services. First Nation citizens and residents are connected with their cultural ties in the area and have a vibrant presence on the land.

Please provide comments on the DRAFT vision statement by April 1st via the contacts tab.

Coming Soon: Land Suitability Map and Guiding Principles & Goals.
